Trauma-Informed Somatic Psychotherapy
for Individuals, Adolescents & Couples
My name is Quinn Sullivan (they/them.) I am a queer non-binary person who grew up in Oakland. I I am a graduate student and clinical trainee working towards my Masters in Counseling Psychology at The California Institute of Integral Studies. I currently provide psychotherapy in a queer community mental health setting under the supervision of a licensed clinician (LCSW.)
People often find me when they are in the in-between.
When they know that it shouldn’t be this hard, but are unsure exactly how to find their ease.
Navigating life’s many challenges can feel confusing, frustrating, and overwhelming. Whether you are dealing with grief, loneliness, identity exploration, relationship issues, gender transition, chronic burnout, or cycles of depression and anxiety, you deserve to be witnessed in your wholeness.
It is my honor to wade through the rich terrain of change with you.
“The doors to the world of the wild Self are few but precious. If you have a deep scar, that is a door, if you have an old, old story, that is a door. If you love the sky and the water so much you almost cannot bear it, that is a door. If you yearn for a deeper life, a full life, a sane life, that is a door.”
― Clarissa Pinkola Estés

My Approach
-
I not only focus on the challenges that might bring someone to therapy, but aim to understand who they are holistically. This includes their joys, strengths, social context, dreams and values. We each contain within us an innate capacity for change and healing when met consistently with acceptance and understanding. I am collaborative, co-creating a space that is supportive to the client’s intentions.
-
Somatic work incorporates the body’s wisdom into the therapeutic process. This can look like noticing the breath or the physical sensations in the present moment or working with the nervous system to build greater capacity. Many of us have tried everything we can to feel better and face the repeating patterns we intellectually understand but feel powerless to change. Engaging with our somatic experience is often the missing piece. By connecting to the body’s knowledge we may build our capacity, self knowledge, and self trust over time.
-
We each are composed of many parts of self, who interact with one another and the world around us. Getting acquainted with these different parts- even the exiled parts of self - allows us to contact our strengths, needs, and desires.
